How to do Button Tufting on a Bar Stool

This is a video of Richardson Seating adding button tufting to the back of a bar stool. The buttons are each individually upholstered using a pedal machine. He is using a wood mallet with some vinyl stapled on it so that it won't damage the vinyl when it touches the back. It takes years to be this quick at hitting in the buttons. It also takes years to learn how to sew the diamond pattern that you see on the back of the bar stool. It takes a lot of time to learn how to do this quickly. It is very easy to damage the vinyl with the mallet or to hit the button in crooked. After several years, you can be as good as the guy in the video. I think he's been with us for at least 20 years.
